Trail description

From the Ashcombe car park in Simonsbath, a bridleway follows the River Barle downstream through its open moorland valley past the ruins of Wheal Eliza, an unsuccessful copper and iron mine worked by the Knight family in the 1840s and 1850s. The path ends at Cow Castle, a scheduled Iron Age hillfort with a single rampart on an isolated conical hill where White Water meets the Barle.
