Trail description

From the Dartmoor National Park car park at Shipley Bridge, a mostly tarmac path follows the River Avon upstream on a steady climb, with a steeper gravel final stretch, to the Avon Dam. The reservoir, completed in 1957, sits in open grassy moorland on south Dartmoor grazed by cattle, ponies and sheep, and hut circles appear on its bed when the water is very low.
