Grindelwald to Waldspitz

Trail description

The walk climbs from the Firstbahn valley station in Grindelwald up the Faulhornweg and the Niederbachweg, then on the marked mountain path to Waldspitz, beside the Berggasthaus Waldspitz. The inn goes back to 1867, when the canton of Bern approved a summer inn on the Bachalp, halfway between Grindelwald and the Faulhorn. The old Hotel Alpenrose Waldspitz was almost completely destroyed by an avalanche in 1922, and a small new building put up a little higher still forms the core of the present house. The walk is about 4.9 km one way, with some 830 m of climbing.
