Trail description
Takasakiyama, 628 m, is a lava dome rising over Beppu Bay on the border of Oita, Beppu and Yufu, in Setonaikai National Park. This route climbs from the north side to the summit, where the remains of the medieval Takasakiyama Castle of the Otomo clan survive. The Takasakiyama natural zoo at its foot is famous for wild Japanese macaques. In ancient times the mountain was called Shihatsuyama and carried a signal beacon.
