Mount Garan from Nabeyama Onsen

Trail description

Garandake, 1,045 m, also called Iozan, is an active volcano at the north end of the Tsurumi volcanoes in Yufu, Oita, above the Beppu hot springs. From the Nabeyama open-air hot spring the path climbs past the steaming crater ground on its flank to the summit. The Japan Meteorological Agency watches Tsurumi and Garan as one volcano: check the alert level before you go and keep away from the vents.
