Trail description

The South Downs Way National Trail from Winchester to Eastbourne: 162.9 km with 2,568 m of climb. It follows the chalk escarpment of the South Downs east past Old Winchester Hill, Queen Elizabeth Country Park and Devil's Dyke, with views over the wooded Weald and south to the English Channel, and ends along the coast over the Seven Sisters, past Birling Gap and over Beachy Head into Eastbourne. The chalk drains and dries quickly, so the trail is good all year; it is busiest at weekends and in the school holidays between May and September.
