Trail description
From Steep, near Petersfield, where the poet Edward Thomas lived from 1906 to 1916, the Hangers Way leads north along Mill Lane and climbs through Ashford Hangers to the Shoulder of Mutton. Here the Edward Thomas Memorial Stone, also called the Poets' Stone, stands among the ancient beech, yew and ash woods that seem to hang from the steep slopes and give the hangers their name.
