Trail description

From West Witton on the A684, field paths and a permissive path climb the steep northern slope of Penhill to the beacon at its eastern end, then follow the edge to the trig point at 526 metres. The beacon belonged to the network built to warn of a Spanish invasion, and local legend makes the hill the home of the sheep stealing Penhill Giant.
