Trail description

Shakagatake, 1,800 m, on the border of Totsukawa and Shimokitayama in southern Nara, is one of Japan's 200 famous mountains and the main peak of the Omine range south of Hakkyogatake. This route climbs from Zenki to the Omine Okugake path and follows it north to the summit, where a bronze statue of the Buddha has stood since 1924, carried up in three pieces by one strong porter. The area is part of Yoshino-Kumano National Park and the World Heritage pilgrimage routes.
