Trail description
Mount Kobushi, 2,475 m, stands where Yamanashi, Saitama and Nagano meet and is the source of the Chikuma, Arakawa and Fuefuki rivers; it is one of the 100 famous mountains of Japan. The usual route from the Yamanashi side leaves the entrance to Nishizawa Gorge and climbs a long, steep ridge, mostly in forest with many rhododendrons, to the summit, with the Kobushi hut just below it. Allow a full day for the climb and the return. Asian black bears live in these mountains, so carry a bear bell and keep food packed away.
