Mount Jinba
Trail description
A 3.1 km climb of about 500 m from the Jinba Kogen Shita bus stop, the terminus of the bus from Takao station, up the Jinba Kaido road for 1.3 km to the start of the Jinba-san New Hiking Course and then through the forest to the 855 m summit of Mount Jinba, on the border of Hachioji in Tokyo and Sagamihara in Kanagawa. Its broad, flat top, also called Jinba Kogen, has teahouses and toilets but no water, and a white horse statue that the Keio railway put up in the late 1960s to promote the mountain. The summit is listed among the Kanto region's hundred best views of Mount Fuji, and in 2023 it was the tenth most climbed mountain in Japan recorded on the YAMAP app. The name may come from the Takeda army's camp (jinba) here during its attack on the Hojo castle of Takiyama, or from an old field of thatching grass (kaya-ba).
