Trail description

Mount Bandai, 1,816 m, the volcano that rises above Lake Inawashiro in Fukushima, is one of Japan's 100 famous mountains. This route takes the Inawashiro trail from the Inawashiro ski area up the ski slopes to Ten-no-niwa, past Mount Akahani and the Numanotaira crater to the Kobo spring and the summit, about 6 km and 1,100 m up. Bandai is a monitored volcano, so check the JMA alert level before going. Asian black bears live in these mountains, so carry a bear bell and keep food packed away.
