Trail description

Mount Bandai, 1,816 m, is an active stratovolcano north of Lake Inawashiro in Bandai-Asahi National Park, called Aizu Fuji for its peak as seen from the Aizu basin. This route climbs from the Happodai trailhead on the north side through beech forest to the summit. The great eruption of 1888 blew away the former Kobandai peak and left the crater wall and lakes of Urabandai. It is one of Japan's 100 famous mountains and a symbol of Fukushima.
