Kumano Kodo Kohechi Yanagimoto to Hongu

Trail description

The last day of the Kumano Kodo Kohechi, from Yanagimoto on the Totsukawa river over the Hatenashi pass, 1,114 m, at the east end of the Hatenashi mountains, down to Yagio and on to Kumano Hongu Taisha. The climb from the river is steep, and numbered Kannon statues stand along the path near the pass. From Yagio the route follows the Kumano river beside road 168 for a while before it joins the Nakahechi for the last stretch to the shrine.
