Kumano Kodo Dainichi-goe

Trail description

A short pilgrim path over Mount Dainichi, 369 m, between Kumano Hongu Taisha and Oyunohara on the Kumano river and the hot spring village of Yunomine. The path dates back at least to the Heian period, and the whole route is part of the Kumano Sankeido national historic site and the World Heritage pilgrimage routes. During the grand festival of Hongu Taisha, children carried on shoulders come this way and stop at the small Tsukimigaoka shrine on the hill.
