Trail description

Stage 6 of the Alta Via 1 of the Aosta Valley, from Gressoney-Saint-Jean (1,405 m) over the Colle di Pinter into the Val d'Ayas to the Rifugio Vieux Crest (1,935 m) above Champoluc. A long day with a big climb; the hut is the usual night stop, book it in summer. A short steep section has a fixed rope.
