Trail description
A 1.6 km walk from the Auerhahn on the B 241 up the steep forest road, closed to public traffic, to the Schalke (762 m) in the Upper Harz. The Schalker Aussichtsturm, built by the Harzklub in 1892 and restored in 2026, is the oldest of the club's four steel lookout towers in the Harz, and a Harzklub shelter hut stands beside it. A French Cold War listening post stood near the summit until its tower was blown up in 2002 and the site cleared by 2003.
