Trail description

From Le Recoin at Chamrousse 1650, the route climbs on T2 paths by the Col des 3 Fontaines, reaching about 2,180 m, and then drops to the Lacs Robert, avoiding the T3 crossing of the Brèche Robert Nord. The lakes lie at 1,998 m on the floor of a natural cirque below the Petit Van, Grand Van and Grand Sorbier, and they have been a classified site since 1911. The largest lake has no surface outflow and drains underground, and its level can fall by 10 m or more between October and April. The walk is about 4.0 km one way, with some 520 m of climbing.
