Lac Blanc de Belledonne

Trail description

A 9.9 km climb of about 1,175 m from the La Pliou - Pré Raymond car park above Freydières, through the forest past Reneuve and the Pré Comté car park, across the Passerelle du Mousset and up a rocky path beside the Ravin des Excellences to the Lac Blanc, at about 2,160 m in the Belledonne range. On the climb through the ravine the Vorz waterfalls are in view. The lake fills a vast glacial cirque, with the Croix de Belledonne (2,926 m) closing its southern wall, and its milky colour comes from glacial meltwater. The Freydane glacier above it reaches down to about 2,400 m, unusually low for the Alps.
