Trail description

From the north end of Halnaker on the A285, a track follows the line of the Roman road Stane Street before turning up to the top of Halnaker Hill, a southern outpost of the South Downs at 128 metres. The four storey brick tower mill on the summit dates from the 1740s, was struck by lightning in 1905 and is the subject of Hilaire Belloc's poem Ha'nacker Mill.
