Zinal to Petit Mountet

Trail description

The walk starts at the guidepost in the centre of Zinal and follows the Route de la Lé track south up the valley across the Plat de la Lée pastures, then a red-and-white marked mountain path up the moraine to the Cabane du Petit Mountet. The hut stands at 2142 m on the lateral moraine of the Zinal glacier, facing the Besso and the Weisshorn, and the head of the valley, with its ring of 4000 m summits, is known as the Couronne Impériale. The first cabin here was built in 1899, on the initiative of Chrétien Theytaz, for the first tourists and climbers coming to the Val d'Anniviers, and the present hut was rebuilt in 2001. The walk is about 5.5 km one way, with some 480 m of climbing.
