Gornergrat to Riffelberg

Trail description

A 3.4 km walk down from the Gornergrat station, at about 3,090 m, to Riffelberg, at about 2,580 m, past the Golden Spot viewpoint and the Rotenboden halt (about 2,820 m) of the rack railway. The rocky ridge of the Gornergrat, 3,135 m, overlooks the Gorner Glacier south-east of Zermatt. The Gornergrat rack railway, the highest open-air railway in Europe, also stops at Rotenboden and Riffelberg, so the walk can be shortened.
