Trail description
A flat 2.7 km walk from the foot of the Mount John Walkway along the lakeside in the township of Lake Tekapo, past the boards of the Lake Tekapo Solar System model. The small township lies at the southern end of Lake Tekapo in the Mackenzie Basin, on State Highway 8. The Church of the Good Shepherd stands on the lake shore in the township. Mount John University Observatory, chosen for its clear skies and freedom from light pollution, sits on a small hill north of the town.
