Gillespies Beach to Galway Beach

Trail description

From the Gillespies Beach car park west of Fox Glacier, the track passes an old 1930s gold dredge, follows the beach to Gillespies Lagoon and a miners pack track, then turns off just before the miners tunnel through rimu forest to remote Galway Beach. About 5 km each way. Galway Beach is a winter haul-out for fur seals: do not disturb them, never get between a seal and the sea, and return by the track rather than through the colony.
