Trail description

Kanpuzan, 1,763 m, stands in the Ishizuchi range on the border of Ehime and Kochi and is one of the Shikoku 100 famous mountains. This route starts at the south portal of the old Kanpuzan tunnel and climbs to Kuwase Pass and on along the ridge to the summit. The pass is a channel for cold northwest winds in winter, so snow often lies over a metre deep and rime ice forms on the trees. The west face is rocky and steep, while the north, south and east sides are gentler.
