Trail description
Arafune is a flat-topped mesa on the border of Gunma and Nagano, named because it looks like a ship sailing through rough seas. This out-and-back route climbs from Uchiyama Pass on the north side onto the plateau, passes the top of the Tomoiwa cliff and continues across the tableland to the summit, 9.4 km with about 470 m of climbing. Tomoiwa drops about 120 m vertically, so keep away from the edge.
