Trail description

A 2.7 km walk with about 310 m of climbing from the Wold car park in Alagna Valsesia, along Via Miniere past the old feldspar mill and up the Sesia valley, then on path 206 past Alpe Stiga to the Rifugio Pastore at Alpe Pile, at 1,575 m in the Alta Valsesia Natural Park. The hut stands on a green plateau that was once the bed of the Sesia glacier, below the south face of Monte Rosa. The CAI Varallo section built it in 1972 and opened it on 1 July 1973 in memory of its member Francesco Pastore. Today it is four restored huts of larch wood and Valsesia stone, with a bar-restaurant and a panoramic terrace.
