Trail description
A 4.2 km climb of about 750 m that starts just west of Lillaz, a hamlet of Cogne at about 1,615 m, passes the small geological park and the foot of the Lillaz waterfalls, then follows trail 12 up the mountainside past the Alpe di Loie to Lago di Loie. The waterfalls are formed by the Urtier torrent just above the hamlet, where blocks of the area's different rocks are laid out with explanatory panels. The lake lies at about 2,350 m in the Gran Paradiso National Park, which grades the walk E (a hiking path) and recommends it from June to October. Near the lake the chances of seeing chamois and ibex increase, and the view reaches the Mont Blanc massif.
