Trail description

A 7.3 km climb of about 760 m from the Lac des Mesches, mostly on a track, to the Refuge des Merveilles at 2,130 m in the Mercantour. The hut is the base for visiting the Vallee des Merveilles and for climbing Mont Bego. The valley holds the largest group of open-air Bronze Age rock engravings in Europe after Val Camonica; Clarence Bicknell copied more than 10,000 of them between 1897 and 1902.
