Trail description
From the Black Mountain Campground in the South Toe valley the Mount Mitchell Trail climbs about 1,100 m through hardwood and spruce-fir forest to the summit of Mount Mitchell (2,037 m), the highest point east of the Mississippi River. The summit has a car park and an observation deck, so some walkers arrange a ride down.
