Lost Mine Trail

Trail description

A 3.7 km climb of about 320 m from the Lost Mine trailhead on the Chisos Basin Road up the Lost Mine Trail to the ridge viewpoint in the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend National Park. The first mile is a gentle climb and the second half steepens into switchbacks; the out-and-back hike is about 4.8 miles with some 1,100 ft of gain and takes 2 to 3 hours. On clear days the Sierra del Carmen in Mexico can be seen from the top, above Juniper and Pine canyons. The small trailhead car park fills early in the peak season, October to April.
