Trail description

A 4.6 km walk with about 160 m of climbing from Park Road 5 in Palo Duro Canyon to the Lighthouse, the hoodoo that is the canyon's best-known feature. Palo Duro Canyon is the eighth largest canyon system in the United States, about 72 km long and up to 300 m deep, and is called the Grand Canyon of Texas. Its hoodoos, including the Lighthouse, formed where erosion-resistant sandstone protects pedestals of the softer shale beneath. The name comes from the Spanish for hard stick.
