Trail description
A 6.8 km loop with about 140 m of climbing from Crater Rim Drive at Kīlauea Iki, a pit crater next to the summit caldera of Kīlauea in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. A hiking trail descends into the crater and crosses it lengthwise. Its most recent eruption, from 14 November to 19 December 1959, formed a large lava lake and produced a lava fountain whose height set a record in Hawaii.
