Herbert Glacier

Trail description

A 7.4 km hike from Mile 28 of the Glacier Highway north of Juneau on the Herbert Glacier Trail, up the Herbert River valley from mature spruce and hemlock forest to younger plant communities on recently deglaciated ground, ending near a terminal moraine in view of Herbert Glacier. The Forest Service warns never to approach the glacier face, because of falling ice.
