Dog Canyon Trail

Trail description

A 3.5 km hike in Big Bend National Park from the pull-off 3.5 miles south of the Persimmon Gap Visitor Center across the flat desert, on a trail marked with cairns, to Dog Canyon, which is visible from the trailhead. At 1.5 miles the trail drops into a wash; turn left down the wash to pass through the canyon. At its far end the horizontal rock layers have been folded vertical by the forces that raised the ridge, and the narrow slot canyon to the south is the Devil's Den. Best in the early morning or late afternoon, when temperatures are moderate.
