Trail description

A 3.2 km climb from the upper trailhead on Black Butte Trail #4026 to the summit of Black Butte (1,937 m), an extinct stratovolcano in the Deschutes National Forest just south of the Metolius Springs, the headwaters of the Metolius River. The forest along the trail ranges from ponderosa pine to subalpine vegetation, and a white cupola and a modern fire lookout tower stand on top.
