Trail description
A 4 km climb from the Black Butte Trailhead to the summit of Black Butte (1,938 m), a cluster of dacite lava domes beside Interstate 5 between Mount Shasta and Weed. The domes rose at the foot of Shastina about 9,000 to 10,000 years ago, and a fire lookout stood on the summit from the early 1930s.
