Trail description
A 1.8 km walk on the Big Four Ice Caves Trail, a National Recreation Trail off the Mountain Loop Highway, across the South Fork Stillaguamish River to a viewpoint below the north face of Big Four Mountain. Avalanche debris there forms the lowest permanent ice in the Cascades, and meltwater carves caves into it each summer. The snowfield is off-limits because cave-ins and slides have killed hikers, so view the caves from the trail.
