Trail description
Out-and-back hike in Great Smoky Mountains National Park from the Clingmans Dome parking area down the Forney Ridge Trail to Andrews Bald. The trail descends through high-elevation spruce-fir forest on a rocky, often wet path to the grassy bald, known for its flame azaleas and rhododendron in early summer. At 5,920 ft (1,804 m), Andrews Bald is the highest grassy bald in the park, with wide views over the surrounding mountains. Remember the climb back up on the return; Clingmans Dome Road is closed to cars from December to April.
