Trail description

From Glenridding the walk follows Greenside Road up the valley past the old Greenside Lead Mine, then climbs the zigzag path out of Keppel Cove to the main ridge and follows it south over Helvellyn Lower Man to the summit of Helvellyn (950 m). It returns the same way, about 16 km with 890 m of climbing, and keeps well away from Striding Edge and Swirral Edge, which are scrambles. The summit plateau is exposed, so carry a map and turn back in poor weather.
