Trail description

From the Doverhay car park in Porlock, bridleways and footpaths climb west up the wooded valley of Hawkcombe through the Hawkcombe Woods National Nature Reserve to open moorland near Hawkcombe Head. The 101 hectare woods are noted for lichens, heath fritillary butterflies and ancient pollards, and Hawkcombe Head is a Mesolithic flint working site occupied between about 6390 and 6210 BC.
