B-29 Crash Site and Higher Shelf Stones

Trail description

From Old Glossop this loop follows the Roman road of Doctor's Gate up Shelf Brook, then climbs across boggy moorland to Higher Shelf Stones on Bleaklow. Just below the trig point lies the wreckage of the USAF RB-29A Superfortress Over Exposed, which crashed in low cloud on 3 November 1948 with no survivors, and the return descends past James's Thorn back to Doctor's Gate.
