Trail description
A steep 2.8 km climb of about 500 m from Sumela Monastery, built into a cliff at about 1,200 m, up the slopes of the Altindere valley near Macka to about 1,690 m. The Greek Orthodox monastery, of ancient origin, was in use until the population exchange of 1923 and is now a museum in Altindere National Park. It was closed in 2015 because of rockfalls and reopened in 2019.
