Trail description
The approach to Mount Ararat, the highest peak in Turkey and a snow-capped volcano steeped in legend. The trail climbs bleak lava slopes past the herders' camps to the base camp used by summit expeditions, with the glaciated summit dome rising above. The route on to the high camp and the summit is serious mountaineering and is not part of this walk. The mountain lies in a military zone, and a climbing permit and a licensed guide are required.
