Trail description

A 6.3 km walk with about 140 m of gentle climbing on the track along the valley floor, from the Üzengi stream southwest through the Gomeda valley south of Ürgüp in Cappadocia, past a rock-cut church with rooms for pigeons to the ruins of a historic church at the head of the valley. Gomeda is a gorge-like valley with gentle slopes and a flat floor, about 7.2 km long, and its stream, known as Şeytan Deresi or the Devil's Creek, runs the whole length of it among the trees like a necklace. The valley has six historic churches, the most important being the Church of St Basil, and it was once used for keeping pigeons, which can still be seen there in summer. Apple, pear, quince, plum and cornelian cherry trees grow along it, and it is counted the third most important of the 160 valleys of Nevşehir.
