Trail description

The loop starts at the Schwarzsee Gypsera guidepost at the north end of the Schwarzsee (Lac Noir) and follows the marked Seerundgang right round the lake, including about 0.4 km on the Seestrasse, as the signed route does. The lake lies at the foot of the Kaiseregg and formed through landslides around 5000 to 4000 BC; in a local legend retold on the Schwarzsee tourism pages, part of the Kaiseregg slid into the valley and dammed it. The first bathhouse for the area's sulphur springs was built in 1784, and in the early 20th century an inn, the Gypsera, opened beside the old gypsum mill at the lake's outlet, where the walk starts. The loop is about 4.1 km, with some 50 m of climbing.
