Maienfeld Heidi Trail
Trail description
The loop starts at Maienfeld station and climbs via Rofels to Heididorf, then crosses west to the Heidibrunnen fountain and returns downhill to the station; like the signposted Heidiweg, much of it follows vineyard lanes and farm roads. Heididorf, the hamlet of Oberrofels above Maienfeld, is presented as the original setting of Johanna Spyri's Heidi story, and Spyri found inspiration for it around Maienfeld while staying with a friend in neighbouring Jenins. The Heidihaus, where Heidi and her grandfather spend the winter in the story, has been open to visitors together with other buildings of the hamlet since 1998. Maienfeld itself, surrounded by vineyards, is the largest wine-growing municipality in Graubünden. The loop is about 6.0 km, with some 175 m of climbing.
