A 5.2 km climb of about 560 m from Van d'en Haut above Salvan to the Lac de Salanfe, a reservoir at 1,925 m at the foot of the Dents du Midi. The Auberge de Salanfe stands by the lake, and the walls of the Tour Sallière rise on the far side.
