An 11 km climb of about 940 m from Bourg-Saint-Pierre up the old Via Francigena route along the Dranse valley to the Great St Bernard Pass at 2,469 m, with its hospice of the canons and their famous dogs. The pass lies on the Italian border, and the lake at the top stays frozen into early summer.
