Sant Jeroni de Montserrat

Trail description

A 3.9 km climb of about 460 m from the Montserrat monastery, partly on stone steps, to Sant Jeroni, at 1,236 m the highest summit of the Montserrat massif. The range near Barcelona is made of pink conglomerate eroded into many rock towers, which gave it its name, serrated mountain. Near the summit stand a small chapel and the ruins of an old hermitage turned restaurant; at the end of the 18th century the peak was one of the survey points used to measure the meridian that defined the metre.
